Well I pulled the carpet around the floor pan and its worse than I thought (and I thought it was bad). Pretty much the whole floor pan on the driver's side is rotten from the motor mount to the cross member that the front of the seat is secured to and up at least an inch on transmission linkage tunnel and the door frame. I can peel the core support away with my hands and there are at least 3 other spots where the metal is gone that I didn't see until I had the carpet up. I may try to take a picture and upload it if anyone wants to see.
What is interesting is that I cut the carpet away from the passenger side and it looks ok (just starting to rust in a couple of spots and the plastic covering is cracking but it is solid...metal sounds that way too), but the mat under the carpet was soaked. On the side that is rusted out it was dry. I pulled the passenger seat and am now going to cut the carpet away from there and see whats up, but it looks like the passenger side is the wet side but I don't see any holes. Where would water be coming in?
Anyway...I'm not sure just finding a patch panel floor pan and welding it in will provide enough support anymore (especially not so close to the motor mount). And I am fairly certain just putting sheet metal in without that core support isn't a good idea (at least not for anything but a temp fix). I think I'm in the needing to find a body and making a drive train swap mode. Anyone know where I can find a straight body? I've got a good drive train and do not need anything but the body. I live in Spokane Washington, but I've got a flatbed trailer and could travel a little bit.
Any advice and help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Chad
